Dr. Gabriella Gambino
Gabriella Gambino was born in Milan in 1968. She is married with five children.
In 1995 she graduated in political science from the University of Milan. In 2001 she received her PhD in bioethics from the Institute of Bioethics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome. From 2001 to 2007 she has been teaching, studying and researching bioethics at the Institute of Methodology of Social Sciences at the LUISS-Guido Carli University in Rome. From 2002 to 2006 she served as scientific expert on the National Committee for Bioethics at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Until 2017 she was adjunct Professor of Bioethics at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and researcher in the philosophy of law at the Faculty of Law of the same university. Since 2005 she has been Professor in charge of Bioethics and Biolaw at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at the Lateran University. In 2017 she was Visiting Professor at the Brazilian section of the Institute at the Universidade Católica do Salvador de Bahia. From 2013 to 2016 she has been involved with the Pontifical Council for the Laity and spoken at conferences organised by the Pontifical Council (2013) and by the Pontifical Academy for Life (2016).
She is the author of numerous publications (monographs, edited volumes and essays), regarding in particular the themes of human life, marriage and family.
On 7 November 2017 she was appointed by Pope Francis as Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life.
