Cardinal Kevin Farrell addressed wishes for abundant spiritual fruits, assuring them of his blessing and prayer, to the participants of the National Congress of the Groups and Communities belonging to the Renewal in the Holy Spirit, who gathered from 22 to 25 April at the Rimini Fairgrounds for the event’s 40th edition. In his letter to the president, Salvatore Martinez, and addressing all those present, the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life emphasizes the importance of commemorating the “history of salvation” lived by the association on important anniversaries. This 40th Congress in fact coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Charismatic Renewal, which began in the Catholic Church shortly after the end of the Second Vatican Council, precisely in February 1967, at a retreat for college students at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Five years later, in 1972, the first prayer groups began to form in Italy, where several hundred now exist. A series of events are being organized in Rome, close to Pentecost, in response to Pope Francis’ invitation to “charismatic” world to celebrate the “Golden Jubilee” together.
