In October, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life met with the delegation of bishops from the Episcopal Conference of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who were undertaking an ad Limina Visit.

Eucharist and family: the third National Eucharistic Congress

2023 was a unqiue year for the Church in the DRC, foremost marked by the visit of Pope Francis to the country, who arrived on the 31st of January, and departed on the 3rd of February; and of further note due to the third National Eucharistic Congress, which was held in Lubambashi during June, and was concentrated on the theme of “Eucharist and Family”.

Formation of the laity - young people and women in particular: A challenge and an opportunity

Undoubtedly, these two demographics are great joys for the entire Church and the Congolese society, bringing with them renewed commitment, and, an impetus to promote the integral formation of: the laity, the pastoral care of families, youth, and the elderly.

However, there are many challenges to be faced and taken up; the formation of the laity is a priority precisely because of an ever-increasing need for the laity, particularly a need for young people and women, to be leaders in bringing Christian values to families and to society as a whole.
