Promoting and supporting the family at the university level: the academic activities and research goals of REDIUF from the Family Global Compact
The outcome of the online meeting that took place on July 6
Following the launch of the Family Global Compact, on July 6, representatives of the Institutes and Family Centers of Catholic Universities that have joined REDIUF, the International Network coordinated by the Dicastery for Laity, Families and Life, met online to begin laying the groundwork for a productive and synergized collaboration to respond to the demands of the Family Global Compact.
The meeting, organized in collaboration between the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life and the international board of REDIUF, headed by Prof. Carmen Dominguez, was attended not only by centers from Europe (REDIF) and Latin America (REDIFAM), which have long been members of the Network, but also centers and institutes from Africa, Eastern countries and the United States, which as a result of the Compact have joined REDIUF. After a welcoming address by the Secretary of the Dicastery, Dr. Gleison De Paula Souza, and a brief speech by the Under-secretary, Prof. Gabriella Gambino, to point out the objectives of the Network around the FGC, the various representatives of the centers connected explained how they intend to enhance their academic activities and research objectives starting from the Compact. In particular, among the points on which they focused, they reflected on establishing the status of the relationship between academic institutes and local and national family ministry in the various countries and what methodology could be used to make collaborative work between institutes from different continents more effective.
Among other things, the meeting revealed a desire to organize an international online conference in the coming months so that what is being done at the university level to promote and support the family will be made known and can be of concrete help to family ministry.
