"Recognizing, from the leading role played by young people, the promotion of peace, unity and fraternity among peoples and nations around the world: an invitation to the youngest to build a world of greater justice and solidarity": this was the motivation that the jury of the CEU Ángel Herrera Award gave yesterday, January 23, to World Youth Day in the section "Dissemination of Catholic Culture."

The award presentation also stressed that World Youth Day has, for almost 40 years, been offering “an experience of the universal Church, promoting an encounter with Jesus Christ, and providing a place for young people to find vocations to marriage and consecrated life.”

Receiving the award on behalf of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life was the president of the John Paul II Foundation for Youth, Daniele Bruno, who gave thanks "on behalf of His Eminence Card. Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life, the President of the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas and the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU, Prof. Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza y Gómez de Valugera, for the prestigious award," recalling that the award is to be shared with all those who are working with enthusiasm and dedication for the realisation of the upcoming WYD in Lisbon in August: "the Local Organizing Committee, chaired by His Excellency Msgr. Américo Aguiar, and the Youth Area of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, headed by Fr. Joao Chagas, as well as the John Paul II Vatican Foundation for Youth, which I have the honour to preside over and which works in support of the Youth Area of the Dicastery."
