The two days of the "Forum on discernment in the Family", offered by the group of professors of the Diploma in Family Ministry at the Pontifical Gregorian University, responded to the appeal of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life to adhere to the "Amoris Laetitia Family Year", called by Pope Francis.

They were held on April 23 and 24, 2021. Five years after the publication of Pope Francis' Apostolic Exhortation Amoris laetitia, the authors offer a reflection on the experience of local churches regarding the practice of discernment in and for the lives of families, in different seasons of planning, growth, and crisis. The experience of the pandemic confronts everyone with the need not only to defend their own health and that of others, but also to confront the unmasking of false security and the detection of the pitfalls present in relationship dynamics that show the fragility and vulnerability of individuals and family life.

We hope that these reflections can encourage pastoral practices that respond to the challenges not only of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, but that it will be the training ground for opening up new paths and new ways of proclaiming the Gospel and welcoming people.
