Towards the Synod

Brazil’s National Council of the Laity brings young people together

Among the objectives of the meeting that ends tomorrow, more formation and development of a critical spirit

The National Council of the Laity of Brazil (CNLB) is organizing, for its young members, a national meeting that will be held in the Sagrada Família formation center, in São Paulo, with the aim of networking the path of the National Youth Commission and the different regional organizations.

The members of the Regional Commission for Youth (CRJ) and the representatives of the organizations linked to each region of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) have been invited to take part in the event. During the meeting, the current organization of the National Youth Commission of the CNLB will be reflected on, but the participants will also talk about the approaching 2018 Synod, focused on the theme “Youth, faith and vocational discernment.”

The President of the Commission for the Laity of CNBB, Msgr. Severino Clasen, Bishop of Caçador explains: “Every time we give young people opportunities for formation, to develop a critical sense, to ask for responsibilities, to stimulate them to study, get updated, form themselves and look for more topics so that they may discuss and talk about current events, we are creating a new citizen, a new city.” According to the bishop, the same National Council of the Laity is called to keep alive the concern that young people are formed and develop a critical spirit, so that “they do not enter into collusion with the world of corruption, injustice, and fraud.”
