From Brazil 2013 to Panama 2019
Keeping the great event celebrated in Rio de Janeiro, in 2013, alive in the memory young people around the world, accompanying them step by step to the next in Panama
Since 2014, the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro commemorates the anniversary of 2013 WYD celebrated in Rio, with the aim of encouraging the participation of young people in the next edition of WYD. This year, the celebration took place in the cathedral and included an intense moment of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, with the monstrance that was used during the WYD Vigil in 2013. There was also a catechesis on the value and dignity of human life led by a young man, as well as some testimonies on what young people are doing so that they may participate in the upcoming WYD.
The commemoration ended with the celebration of the Eucharistic presided over by S.E. Msgr. Joel Amado, former executive secretary of the Rio WYD. Despite the economic crisis and the loss of hope that is presently affecting Brazil, the diocese will bring a large group of pilgrims to Panama. The radio station of the archdiocese, “Radio Catedral,” will broadcast the whole event, it already did during the WYD in Krakow, thus allowing many people to participate at a distance, through the radio and web TV. The secretary of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life sent a message to the young people gathered for the event.
