Ten prayer meetings, with moments of adoration and formation, will be held in Rome’s Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, in preparation for the Synod of Bishops 2018 and the World Youth Day in Panama.

The event is promoted by the Shalom Community, with the support of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life and of the Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops. Indeed, the Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, on the theme: “Youth, Faith and Vocational discernment,” will be held next October. Then, three months later, in January 2019, the city of Panama will host the XXXIV World Youth Day on the theme “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38).

The purpose of the monthly meetings, the organizers explain, “is to help young people develop the desire to follow Mary on a path of discipleship and missionary life, following the example of Pope Francis, who before each apostolic journey stops to pray before the icon of the Salus Populi Romani.”

Testimonies and interventions by exceptional guests from different ecclesial realities will enrich these encounters. Each evening will end with Eucharistic adoration.

At the first meeting, on Saturday, January 20th, the founder of the Shalom Community, Moysés Azevedo, will be present.
