OFFICIAL NAME

Federación Mundial de las Obras Eucarísticas de la Iglesia

ALSO KNOWN AS

World Federation of the Eucharistic Works of the Church

ESTABLISHED

1962

HISTORY

The Federation was established at a meeting of representatives of national nocturnal adoration societies that was convened by the Venerable Archconfraternity of Nocturnal Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament of the city of Rome. They all adhered to it and were thus entitled to all the privileges and benefits granted to the Rome Archconfraternity by Pope St. Pius X on 8 August 1906. In the year 2000, it was decided by national nocturnal adoration associations from eight countries in various continents to broaden the scope of the Federation. In perpetual memory of the Great Jubilee Year that was dedicated by Pope John Paul II in a special way to the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, it was decided to open the Federation up to groups that encourage Eucharistic endeavours. On 6 December 2003, the Pontifical Council for the Laity decreed recognition of the Federación Mundial de Adoración Nocturna a Jesús Sacramentado y otras Obras Eucarísticas as an international association of the faithful. By a subsequent decree dated 22 January 2009, the Pontifical Council for the Laity recognised a change in the name of the Association, henceforth to be known as the World Federation of Eucharistic Works of the Church.

IDENTITY

The Federation is made up of national and territorial entities throughout the world that have as their purpose adoration and advocacy and/or practice of veneration of the Blessed Sacrament. The Federation also includes institutes of consecrated life or clerical associations that are known for their apostolic dedication to the Holy Eucharist and their encouragement of adoration. The Federation coordinates activities that advance, support and propagate adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and devotion to Our Lady.  It encourages doctrinal, liturgical and spiritual instruction in the full mystery of the Eucharist, and cultivates a spirit of fellowship and mutual help among all its members.

ORGANISATION

The governing bodies of the Federation are the General Assembly − which includes the members of the Board of Directors and a representative from each of the federated societies − and the Board of Directors. The General Assembly normally meets on the occasion of the International Eucharistic Congresses usually held every four years. Extraordinary General Assemblies can be called by the President. The Executive Council is composed of the Ecclesiastical Assistant, President, Deputy President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary General, General Treasurer, Vice-Secretary, Vice-Treasurer and Councillors. The Executive Board meets in ordinary session at least once a year.
