The Chair “Gaudium et Spes” at the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences was inaugurated a few days ago.

“The new chair—a note indicates—expresses the intention to identify with the Institute’s path of refoundation, which has been traced by Pope Francis, and to invest resources in research on the theme of the Family, in relation to the new social context in Italy, in the West, and beyond.” The aim is “to create an academic environment where the new pastoral challenges to which the Christian community is called to respond are addressed. The creation of this new research and teaching center is fully situated on the Institute’s path of more than thirty years: Vatican II’s pastoral constitution Gaudium et Spes represented a fundamental step in updating how the Church looked at marriage and the family, and singular progress was seen with Amoris Laetitia.”

The inauguration was attended by Vincenzo Paglia and Pierangelo Sequeri, respectively Grand Chancellor and Dean of the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute, and by the President of the Catholic University of Murcia, José Luis Mendoza Pérez.

The related initiatives include a Degree and an online Masters in Marriage and Family Sciences, in collaboration with UCAM. A World Observatory on the family and a Digital Library “Amoris Laetitia” will be created conjointly with the Institute of Murcia.
