The book, which will soon be translated into English, Spanish, and French, includes the texts of the papers from the day with the Moderators of Associations of the Faithful, Ecclesial Movements and New Communities held on 13 June 2024, where Pope Francis also spoke.

To take part in the common journey the Church has undertaken in recent times, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life has proposed the theme “The Challenge of Synodality for the Mission” for the last Annual Meeting of Moderators of Associations of the Faithful, Ecclesial Movements and New Communities on 13 June 2024. Many of the most widespread movements in the world are the result of the Council, born as a providential implementation of the lines of renewal initiated by the great ecclesial event: the rediscovery of the vocation-mission of the laity by virtue of baptism, co-responsibility between laity and ordained ministers, a renewed missionary drive to proclaim the Gospel in a new way in modern culture; also, the rediscovery of dialogue, listening, community discernment, and shared apostolate. These are all dimensions of synodality that the movements experience and live within themselves.

However, synodality for the mission remains a challenge, and it is also a challenge for the movements and associations, places where being tempted to individualism, habit, and conforming to the world’s mentality are always lurking and can cause people to lose sight of the reason why they were inspired by the Holy Spirit: to find the way together and carry forward, with new passion, the evangelizing mission of the Church.

The proceedings of the day are found in the book. These texts provide the basis for these issues and present different movements and associations’ experiences. The words of the Holy Father, who addressed participants to share his greetings and support, are an added-value to this book, which also includes an introduction by the Prefect of the Dicastery, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, as well as studies by Rafael Luciani, expert invited to the Synod on Synodality, and Elisa Lisiero, Official of the Dicastery.

The book The Challenge of Synodality for the Mission is now available in Italian, and will soon be translated into English, Spanish, and French.
