European Families Celebrating
On 1 June, FAFCE celebrates its 20th anniversary with Pope Francis
FAFCE, the European Federation of Catholic Family Associations, will celebrate its anniversary in Rome on June 1st, the International Day of Parents, by meeting Pope Francis. This was announced in a press release of the Association, which has brought together associations in 14 European countries since 1997 and today, with a participatory status with the Council of Europe, is also a member of the Conference of International NGOs of the Council of Europe as well as being a part of the Fundamental Rights Platform of the EU. FAFCE, based on the social doctrine of the Catholic Church, “will be consecrated to the Virgin Mary on the feast of the Visitation, prior to having the joy to meet with His Holiness Pope Francis.
” “Our organization,” explains Antoine Renard, president of FAFCE since 2009, “has developed from a gathering of a few family associations after the end of the cold war into the federation founded in 1997 that is renowned for its action in favor of the family and family-friendly policies.”
The family, he adds in conclusion, “is a masterpiece of the Creation; we hope to find inspiration to pursue our action in this spirit and present family relationships as a model of social construction for Europe and for the world.”
