Lisbon 2022
Launching the contests for the logo and official hymn of WYD 2022 in Lisbon
The Local Organizing Committee invites young people from all over the world to submit their designs for the logo of the next World Youth Day. Portuguese youth are also invited to participate in a competition for writing the official hymn of the gathering.
By 4 November, young people—whether professional graphic designers or amateurs—can indicate their interest in participating in a design contest for the logo of World Youth Day 2022 in Lisbon, which will take its theme from the words of the Gospel of Luke: “Mary arose and went in haste.” (Luke 1:39) According to the rules of the competition set out by the Local Organizing Committee, the entries must be inspired not only by the above-mentioned theme but also by Portuguese culture, and must be submitted by 29 November. The contest for the official hymn of World Youth Day, which is open only to Portuguese youth, will have the same deadlines.
The fact that some of the logos and hymns of World Youth Day have, by this time, been composed by young people themselves underscores the point that youth are creators of this event, and not only its beneficiaries.
In this way World Youth Day also becomes an opportunity to explore the language through which each generation expresses its own faith and strives to communicate the Gospel. And so this time as well, the logo and hymn chosen from among the submissions will be used not only as the “brand” of the event, but also above all as an means of transmitting, in contemporary language, the spiritual message of World Youth Day 2022.
