WYD
The dates of the days in the dioceses before WYD Lisbon 2023 have been announced
Young people from around the world are invited to visit Portuguese dioceses from 26 to 31 July 2023
“Welcome, discovery, mission, culture, and sending” are the five "pillars" of the Days in the Dioceses program that will precede the celebration of World Youth Day Lisbon 2023. This meeting of great pastoral and missionary importance will take place from 26 to 31 July 2023 in 17 Portuguese dioceses, two of which cover areas of the island: Algarve, Angra, Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança-Miranda, Coimbra, Évora, Funchal, Guarda, Lamego, Leiria-Fátima, Portalegre-Castelo Branco, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.
During these days, young pilgrims who would like to not only attend the international encounter with the Holy Father but also better understand the local Church in Portugal will be invited to take part in the spiritual and cultural program organized separately by each of the 17 dioceses.
In this way, the Days in the Dioceses, which began in 1997 when WYD was held in Paris, will continue. In testimony given by pilgrims, organizers, communities, and families hosting the young participants, this time allows the experience of the meeting of the universal church to be shared not only in the diocese hosting the WYD but also throughout the local church of the host country.
