Germany Celebrates the Year of Marriage

“Together Forever. On the Path of Sacramental Marriage” is the theme that will accompany the Church in Germany throughout 2018.

A four-part pastoral resource has been published under the same title to offer “reflections, impulses, and inspirations” along with some experiences already underway and materials that help to understand “what Christian marriage is” and to prepare prayers and celebrations on the theme of marriage.

“The intense discussion that took place this year in relation to the access of same-sex couples to civil marriage,” writes, in the introduction of this resource, Msgr. Heiner Koch, President of the German Bishops’ Commission for marriage and the family and Archbishop of Berlin, “has shown that many do not understand our conception of sacramental marriage.” Consequently, this material has been made available, so that, starting from the parishes, the theme which “can no longer be taken for granted” may be addressed.
