Cardinal Pironio to be proclaimed blessed
A friend of the youth, he was President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity
During the Audience granted on November 8 to Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, the Supreme Pontiff authorized the same Dicastery to promulgate the Decree concerning the miracle attributed to the intercession of the Venerable Servant of God, Edoardo Francesco Pironio, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, who was born in Nueve de Julio (Argentina) on December 3, 1920, and died in Rome (Italy) on February 5, 1998.
In 1984, Cardinal Pironio was appointed by Pope John Paul II as President of the then Pontifical Council for the Laity. During his mandate he worked a great deal for the promotion and discernment of the new Ecclesial Movements, but especially for the promotion of World Youth Day, resulting as one of its creators.
