Pope Leo XIV

And to young people I say: ‘Do not be afraid! Accept the invitation of the Church and of Christ the Lord!’

On Sunday 11 May, Pope Leo XIV appeared on the balcony of the central loggia of St. Peter's Basilica and, in front of about 100,000 people, recited his first Regina Coeli.

Welcoming and accompanying young people on their vocational journey

During the Marian prayer, the Holy Father recalled the celebration of the 62nd World Day of Prayer for Vocations: "Today, brothers and sisters, I therefore have the joy of praying with you and all the People of God for vocations, especially those to the priesthood and consecrated life. The Church has such a great need for them!" Addressing young people, Pope Leo XIV said: "It is important that young men and women on their vocational journey find acceptancelistening and encouragement in their communities." Finally, in an emotional appeal to young people around the world, he added: “Do not be afraid! Accept the invitation of the Church and of Christ the Lord!”

The appeal for peace so that children in context of war may return to their families

After reciting the Regina Coeli prayer, the Holy Father made an appeal for peace for all territories wounded by war and violence, with a special thought for the return of children to their families.

A thought for all mothers, including those in Heaven

At the end, the Pope greeted and remembered all mothers on the day dedicated to them in many countries of Europe and around the world: "I send a fond greeting to all mothers, with a prayer for them, and for those who are already in Heaven."
