At the service of the Church in Greece
In November, the Dicastery also met with Greece

The Catholic Church in Greece is a very minoritarian Church. Greek Catholics of all rites (Latin, Byzantine, Armenian) number about 60,000 faithful (0.5% of the country's population). In addition to them, there are a number of foreign Catholics who have settled on Greek soil for various reasons.
Secularisation and emigration
The biggest challenge is the lack of priests, of religious, of young people who leave the islands to study and hardly ever return. Despite being a Christian country by tradition and practice, secularism is advancing rapidly in Greece, emerging in various circumstances of social life.
Ecumenical dialogue and apostolate of tourists
Positive experiences are found in the ecumenical dialogue with the Greek Orthodox Church, and opportunities for pastoral activity are offered by the considerable presence of tourists - mostly Catholic Christians and many young people - throughout the year.
