#Synod2018
The hearts of young people
The statements of our Secretary, Alexandre Awi Mello and Father João Chagas on the Synod in progress

Kevin Farrell, Prefect, Alexandre Awi Mello, Secretary and Father Joao Chagas from the Youth Office of the Dicastery are all attending the Synod of Young People on the matter of “Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment”.
“ Right from the outset, listening has shown itself to be the main attitude of the Synod, a starting point to stay close to young people in their struggles and difficulties and help them to understand their questions and provide answers” said Father Awi Mello in a video message. Father Awi Mello has also been appointed by Pope Francis as a member of the Commission for drawing up the final document. Another keyword is “accompany”, “to highlight”, continued the Secretary of our Dicastery, “the importance of being a Church that takes pastoral, human and spiritual care of our young people. Africa, Asia, America, Europe are truly different worlds but the hearts of young people are the same everywhere”.
“There is a climate of discernment, of listening” – stated Father Chagas. “When the Synod Fathers were speaking, the young people present in the audience reacted and even there we could perceive the echo that each proposal had in the hearts of the young people. There will be many fruits starting from the documents, but this communion that has been created will bring much cooperation in youth ministry”.
